Back in December Nissan showed off its Leaf electric car with zero-emission technology and practicality with video of the hatchback zipping through snow and water. Nissan will use next month's Geneva motor show to display its new Esflow concept, a rear-wheel-drive two-seater that borrows drivetrain technologies from the production-ready Leaf electric hatchback.

LeafThe car, among the world's first mass-market electric vehicles, is already sold out until March 2011 because of limited production capacity. There have been 6,000 orders in Japan and 20,000 in the U.S. It arrives in Europe next year. Leaf will sell in Japan for $45,000 and with a $9,000 government green incentive the price will come down to $35,000.

The Japanese brand says the Esflow it its vision of a future zero-emissions sports car, blending driving thrills with environmental benefits. Esflow has streaky LED lights that make it look like a sports car from the movie Tron, but Nissan's new Esflow concept could be a pointer to an all-electric version of the company's famous GT-R supercar.

EsflowThe Esflow's compact, 'fastback' shape has more in common with the company's smaller 370Z coupe, though the concept has been built on all-new, lightweight aluminium underpinnings. Nissan says the bespoke platform allowed its engineers to package the lithium-ion battery pack and electric motors - one for each rear wheel - for ideal weight distribution to enhance handling and performance.

According to Mashable.com "There are more exotica, including brake and gas pedals that adjust electronically to fit each driver, fly-by-wire steering and video cameras and screens instead of rear-view mirrors. Add up all these features, and the result is not going to be a cheap car. Like most concept cars, the ESFLOW is an ambitious design, but Nissan says it’s a “production-ready” vehicle."

Esflow will also be fast comparable to Porsche Carrera S4 and will accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in less than five seconds and travel 240km on a single charge, according to the Nissan.
