Recently more and more free magazines are hitting the iPad and no doubt other Tablets when they eventually get going. However, I do find them intriguing as these days I just don't have the time to buy papers, and unless we have an election going on, or some disaster going on that requires my immediate attention, these free Magazines are the way to go.

They cost nothing and you can bet that on daily basis we have a new one out that can occupy my time on the train, or in some waiting room. As a X-Men fans, that had no time to go to cinema and see the movie.  Twentieth Century Fox recently announced a new App, “X-Men EXTRA was a must read for me. The App puts users in the middle of the most defining – and top secret – events of the past century. The digital and updatable magazine app is just amazing and it will come to iPhone, the Blackberry Playbook and Android tablets soon.

Althought the App hypothesizes is designed more for people that have seen the movie, but it was still great read for me through hidden video clips and newly discovered photos, that the X-Men played a secret role in shaping many historic events, including the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mutants were working within covert government agencies, infiltrating the highest echelons of power – and secretly changing the course of history.

‘X-Men: First Class,’ in theatres everywhere right now, unveils the epic beginning of the ‘X-Men’ saga – and a secret history of the Cold War and our world at the brink of nuclear Armageddon. As the first class discovers, harnesses, and comes to terms with their formidable powers, alliances are formed that will shape the eternal.

ipad app magazinesTo check for new ones – it is easy – just go to App Store, click on top chart, click on release dates – last 31 days and up comes National Geographic Magazine and GQ Magazine (UK) both getting 4 out of 5 in reviews.

The National Geographic Magazine app is much better than the older version, sharp photos and even some video clips. But photos are not zoomable, just fixed size. Apart that I have a subscription via Zinio but with this new app it does not work and I have to buy each issue which is rather odd as i might buy it one month and miss it the rest. There should be some advantages in annual subscription.

Finally Nat Geo Magazine for iPad! I think this is a great app! I really enjoy using it, so interactive and easy to use! The app has good blend of pictures, videos, tap for more information on product features and the columnist even wink at you!

However, the print subscribers in the UK are not happy and say it's just a rip-off NOT to get the iPad version at any extra cost.

I do however; see one problem with the whole thing. Just in May this year there was 239 Magazine. So just to check what has come on a monthly basis is getting difficult.
