Recently more and more free magazines are hitting the iPad and no doubt other Tablets when they eventually get going. However, I do find them intriguing as these days I just don't have the time to buy papers, and unless we have an election going on, or some disaster going on that requires my immediate attention, these free Magazines are the way to go.

Apple announced today that it plans to introduce the next generation of its mobile platform, iOS 5, as well as a new cloud service called iCloud at the Worldwide Developers Conference next week on Monday, June 6. This is a highly unusual move for Apple, which normally tries to keep their centre-ring announcements secret until the scheduled event.

With Apple patenting number of methods in 3D environment and the talk of iPad 3 being in 3D, the a 3D desktop interface to an otherwise 2D operating system is gaining traction. This is the latest patent is coming from Microsoft, which recently received a patent for what it describes as a "method and apparatus for providing a three-dimensional task gallery computer interface." In summary, this is an interface intended to help you better manage multiple tasks on your desktop. IMO it is still designed for Desktop PC and not mobile devices but, the patent suggests this could be done in a 3D environment with a floor, walls and a ceiling.

Earlier last year I reported the sightings of lots of 3D patent submissions by Apple. The suggestion that Apple must have plans to introduce it in iOS technology is gaining traction with latest Hot Rumours by RCRWireless reporting that Hollywood is rather adept at telling compelling stories, and the latest plot to come out of the LA studios concerns Apple’s third generation tablet, already in the advanced planning stages and very much 3D, they’re told.

comScore’s February mobile report  was released today, and it looks like good news for Google and to certain extend good for most providers as they mostly show increased revenue even if they are not increasing market share. Whilst all this is happening, I lost my SmartPhone over a month ago, and I am not missing it. So I am asking myself why not? It could be my age or it could be that I have been there and done it so there is no more excitement in this technology for people like me.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb promises to be more suited to tablets than previous versions with Dual-core processor and allowing Flash in the browser.  Android has received a whole new user interface to take advantage of the abundant screen real estate. For example, Honeycomb adds a new way to get at your apps, beyond the shortcuts and widgets that you could pin to the home screens in previous versions of the operating system. Now you can drag and drop apps into shortcut groups, which are displayed in a carousel that looks like it's rotating in 3D.

For the past year, my wife has been begging me to buy a new phone as she says my old phone is mostly unavailable in recent times. I have never been interested in iPhone as to play with iOS with both iPod and iPad so I do not have any need for yet another iOS device. So it is going to be either Windows Phone 7 or an Android.  And neither has convinced me enough until this week’s announcement by Sony for Xperia Play.

An article is making its way around the net today, a letter written to Roger Ebert by an Oscar-winning editor and sound engineer, Walter Murch, decrying a fundamental flaw in 3D filmmaking that he assures us ruins the entire idea. The author David Coldeway thinks that Roger was off the mark in this assessment. And he goes on to dispel some of the information he’s spreading via Ebert’s blog.

From the above number, Apple sold almost 15 million iPads last year or just about 90% of all tablets sold.  In fact now it is outselling Macs in units, and closing in on revenues.  The 7.3 million iPads sold just in the December quarter represented a 75 percent increase from the September quarter, and the $4.6 billion in revenue represented a 65 percent sequential jump. (The iPad was launched in April 2010).

Nintendo's newly announced 3DS handheld promises 3D imagery without the need for goggles. At CES press had a chance to play with the device behind closed doors. The first preview of the 3D games is out today.

Data centers future as cloud computing grows

As the buzz about cloud computing continues to grow, there are some questions like, is it the end of Data Centres? I have been watching the headline news on Cloud Computing and its impact on Data Centre and traditional Hosting companies.  For example, IDC thinks that data centre capacity is to shrink, because of IT consolidation and the combined response of utility/cloud computing or server virtualisation (with the need for less servers). This is attractive in the current climate, thanks to the need to cut costs and reduce duplication and overlap. The original is at Salar Golestanian Blogs.

Trying to find something on what used to be called the Internet has now reached a new paradigm shift. It’s not so much that various media strategies and hardware devices have carved things up into a tangle of web.  For about 3 years now, I have been very happy with my Sky TV , if you are outside UK, it is satellite broadcast with good selection of movie channels and entertainments + all the free stuff you get over here in UK. On top of that I have a PC under my TV that is quite enough to be used so I can use BBC iPlayer, SkyPlayer.... Original post at Salar Golestanian Blogs
